6 Reasons Why Winter Family Photos Are The Best

How can we have a family portrait in winter and still look good?

Many families ask me this question and I love answering it, because it is an easy one to answer. I am going to give you just 6 reasons why winter sessions are amazing, but there are plenty more reasons, I will just hold back and not overload you with too many, hehe.

1.        Winter Colours are amazing!

If you have been following me for a while, you will know that I love Autumn and all the colours that go with it. I have to admit that I do love the colours of Winter too as they can be just as amazing as Autumn if you find the right location. Have you ever stood and watched some of the winter clouds and the colours as they change in the sky?

Check out this beach session I did a few years ago during August. It was a chilly day, but look at the colours of the sand and the water. They are amazing!

2.        Shade all around!

As a family photographer, I am always looking for shade for your family photos. This avoids you and your family squinting in your photo, and avoids having patches of sun all over you. When winter hits, quite often, we are under a cloud of constant shade and we have the added bonus of being able to take your family portraits just about ANYWHERE! No keeping to the shadows!

3.        Added Fun with Gumboots and Umbrellas

If we think there might be a chance of rain and it is just going to be light, then I have some gorgeous umbrellas and I suggest some gumboots for the kids and we use the rain to have some fun in your family photos. Kids love to splash around and jump in muddy puddles. (Thanks Peppa Pig, lol)

(Yes, this one was taken in Autumn, but look how cute with the Umbrella and boots!)

4.        Layers Look Amazing Mummas!

In the summer we can wear gorgeous dresses, yes that is true, but there are also some amazing dresses for winter AND we can add gorgeous fluffy scarves and woolen jumpers that look absolutely gorgeous in your family portraits. It’s one of my top tips in my “what to wear guide” to add  some layers for interest in your family portraits. Winter textures are beautiful

Adding a scarf, jacket, cardigan or bolero, can add interest to your family portrait.

5.        More Snuggles

WE don’t need a reason to snuggle with our kids, but maybe our kids need a little encouragement 😊 so what better way to convince them to have snuggles with you, than in your winter family photo, so they keep nice and warm! (yes, I know that one is a little cheeky, but you have to try these things, especially when you have kids who are a little bit older, haha)

And just one more reason for you as to why you should have your family photos taken in Winter…..

6.        WHY NOT?

If you have made the decision to have family photos and you are ready to go ahead, then why not now? If the last 2-3 years has taught us anything, it’s that we NEVER know what life is going to throw at us from one day to the next, so let’s capture your family just as they are RIGHT NOW! And make sure that your family memories are recorded for the generations that will follow you and your kids.

Winter Family Photos are booking up now and I would love to help you to record your family memories in a beautiful and special way. Let’s chat about your family photos.
