4 Easy Steps to Convince Dad to have a Family Portrait

Family Photography by Three Hearts Photography

You might have seen my recent post on Facebook about which person is more likely to pull a face at the Family Photoshoot…. Dad or Kids? Most people got it right, it was the dads, sorry dads.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have had some awesome Dads come along and they have been fantastic during their Portrait Session. They love spending time with their family and they will even throw in a smile or two, lol. But if someone is going to pull a face….it’s often the dads.

We don’t know exactly why, maybe something about having to dress up, smile for the camera, stay still in one spot for any length of time, interact with someone who makes funny faces and blows raspberries to make you smile, (most dads hate that, lol). or maybe it’s just being away from the footy, cricket, tennis, golf, or whatever they are into on their weekends.

But whatever it is, we already know before we even make the booking that Dad might just be the reluctant one. So in order to encourage our dads to come along and get the beautiful Family Portraits that we really want, I am going to give you a few little tips that will help you to get Dad in your next Family Portrait and be happy about it.

So here are 4 Easy Steps to Convince Dad To Have A Family Portrait –

#1. Bribery! – Hey, it works with the kids, why not with Dad too.

Tell them that if they have their photo taken they can go off and watch sport at the Pub for an hour or two by themselves. Find out what they want and then use it to get what you want, hehehe

#2. It’s All About The Kids

Tell Dad that the Family Session is really all about getting some updated photos of the kids because they have changed so much and they won’t be this small forever. He doesn’t need to be in all the photos, just a few of them. Then before he knows it, he’s off the hook and he has some beautiful photos with his kids and gorgeous wife. He will be thanking you and telling you it wasn’t so bad after all. 😉

#3. Christmas Presents, Mother’s Day Presents, Father’s Day Presents, Birthday Presents….

We know that Dad’s are not usually the ones that do all the shopping, but how would it feel to tell them that they could have half or all of their special occasion shopping done in about an hour and it would be the best present you could ever give that person? (Throw in how their mother/parents have been asking for updated photos of the family for years and this would kill two birds with one stone, lol)

#4. Tell them just how important it is to you

Ok, this one is a little sneaky and some might call it a little like playing on his emotions, but it’s also really true. Having updated Family Portraits IS VERY important to you and when he looks back on your Portraits in 20, 10 or even as few as 5 years, he will see just how precious it was to capture your family at this time in their lives.

Now, this blog has been a little bit of fun and I like to have fun with the Dads, because they can take a good laugh. We know how much Dads love their Family and we know that having their Portraits on the wall and looking back at their family memories is just as important to them too.
