IF I ONLY HAD A TIME MACHINE – FAMILY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY BY THREE HEARTS PHOTOGRAPHY

We all have our “Impossible Dreams” The things we would love to come true but are often far too impossible to ever come true.

Like: Winning the tattslotto

Having Magical Powers

Finding a Genie in a Bottle (can you tell we have been watching Aladdin, lol)

Or the one that I have been thinking about a lot recently, is having a Time Machine.

But what would I do if I had a Time Machine? Would I go back in time and visit some of the great history makers? Meet Elvis before he was famous? Catch a glimpse of President Kennedy or Abraham Lincoln? Would I watch Larry Page and Sergey Brin as they developed Google and changed the internet, if not the whole world forever? I mean come on, who doesn’t say… “Let me just Google that”.

No, I don’t think it would be anything fancy like that. At least not for my first visit. You see, if I had a time Machine, there are a few people and a few things a little more important to me that I would want to do and see first…..

My number one thing to do if I had a Time Machine would be…..

……To Visit my Grandparents!

My Grandparents died when I was in my teen years and while I have some very fond memories of them, I know that there are a lot of things that I don’t know and don’t remember about them. I would love to go back and see them. Remember their characters, their mannerisms and yes, take as many photos as I could, till they told me to go away, lol. I would want to take photos of them on their own, photos of them together, photos of them with my parents and siblings and of course, photos of them with me and my family. I would have to make sure that I took lots of batteries and memory cards with me back there, lol.

There are so many things I would love to capture that we just don’t have. I guess 25-30 years ago, photos and cameras weren’t that accessible to us as they are now either, so our families didn’t take as many photos. Which makes me think…..What is our excuse now?

We have more cameras available to us than EVER before. More means of printing them than EVER before! And yet time and time again I hear from people, or I read about it online, how they wished they had of got a photo of XXXXX before it was too late. If only they had organised that Portrait Session for Mum when she had asked them too.

For me, though, it’s not just about the photos, it’s about the memories. I want to remember that my mum loves doing craft with my kids. That Pa plays Cops and Robbers with them for hours. That Grandpa always has his tin of Lollies at the footy and they know where he keeps it in the cupboard at home. And Grandma plays princess all day long.

For me, I want to go back and record moments like these that I had with my Grandparents and capture them. I want to remember their touch, their voices, their smile, their love.

The reality is, that there is no time machine. My chance has gone. I live with the memories I have of my Grandparents and I make a promise to my children NOT to do the same thing to them. I have some updates to do, that’s for sure! But I will be doing them this Christmas break! Because I don’t ever want to be someone that SHOULD HAVE DONE IT!

If it’s time for your Family to come together and capture a special Family Portrait with GRANDPARENTS, then now is the season to do it! Tell them how important it is to you, tell them how important it is to your parents. It is THE ONE gift that they cannot give to themselves and the one gift that they will treasure the most!
