We all love to get out and about in the warmer months. To feel the sun on our backs and feel warm and happy as we run around with the kids, laughing and playing in the sunshine.
Then, as the seasons change and weather becomes cooler, we find ourselves smack in the middle of winter, all rugged up in blankets, coats, beanies and woolly socks, hibernating in our houses with the heater cranked up on high and not even wanting to poke our head outside ever again.
However, there are some marvellous reasons for getting out and about with your family in the winter months and you can read about them on our recent blog HERE. But where do you go in the Winter months?
Here are 6 Fantastic Family Outings for your Family this Winter!
Snow – There are many great options for the snow, but our favourite family friendly location for a snow trip, is Mount Donna Buang. It is super close and super free. Two things that I love as a Mum, lol. Take your Toboggan and a picnic lunch and off you go. Make sure you leave early because it can get busy, but it is totally worth it! Don’t forget to build a snow man!
Apple Picking – A gorgeous little Orchard, Sherwood Park Orchard, located in Bunyip Victoria, just an hour drive from Melbourne and a fantastic winter activity which is so much fun for the whole family. Pick a collection of the most delicious tasty apples you have ever eaten, then have lunch at the café, before you head home or stop off in the nearest town for some more exploring and adventures.
Australia Gardens – A visit to Australia Gardens in Cranbourne will give you the chance to take a walk in the outdoors and see some of the beautiful wildlife of the Australian Bush. Like all bushwalks, you will probably need waterproof shoes, especially when the kids see the water feature. 😉
Lysterfield Park – There are some great walks around Lysterfield Lake that can take you on an adventure with your family like no other adventure you have ever had before. Check out some of the walking tracks HERE and plan an adventure for your Family!
NGV – If it is raining and it just won’t stop, but the kids are DRIVING YOU CRAZY, then don’t stay at home yelling at them or send them to their room with the iPad, pack up the kids and head in to the city for some creativity and art exploration at the National Gallery of Victoria. There are lots of cool things to do and see there.
Rosebud Beach – It might sound a little weird to suggest a Family Outing to the beach in the Winter months, but the beach is always a great idea. You just have to change the type of experience that you have at the beach. Gather your buckets and spades together, make sure you have the towels, because the kids are sure to still get a little wet, and with a picnic lunch you can have an awesome day spending time with your family, digging holes, building sandcastles, hunting in the rockpools for crabs and taking a walk along the pier watching the waves and the boats go by. There are hours of fun at the beach at any time of the year, so ENJOY!
I hope you love these Winter Family Outings as much as our Family does and can get out on the weekend to make some wonderful memories for your Family this chilly season.
A Family Portrait Session in the Winter is always a fun idea as well. Layers of scarves and woolly cardigans can look amazing in your Portraits as you snuggle on a blanket in the park or on the beach.
